Homemade Solar Panels
If I was to choose between homemade solar panels and store bought solar panels I'll choose the homemade ones any day. They look as good as store bought ones but they're a lot cheaper. It's quite shocking how much you can save by building them yourself. Makes me wonder why the price tag of solar panels is so high.
I have yet to come up with a good answer for that yet so my current answer is because they can. I mean, it costs $110 to build a 72 panel, but to buy the same one costs at least $450 (used). The two don't look any different and they both produce the same amount of power.
Oh well, now that I've started building homemade solar panels I'm never going to buy one. A beginner can build their first panel within 3 hours (once you've done a couple you can get that down to 2 hours). If you look at that from an hourly rate you're saving at least $100/hour. Saving that much money is almost like making that much money so that's pretty darn good.
I have many people ask me whether it's difficult to build homemade solar panels. I always reply "all you need to do is want to build them". It's true, solar panels have no moving parts. All that's required is delicate handling and some soldering (that's the only hard part). Soldering??? I can't solder!! Sure you can. I've shown tons of people who have never soldered in their life how to do it within a couple minutes. They were pumping out their own panels in no time! The pictures I get are great. People will say "I build 20 panels and saved around $8K". Those kinds of emails come in every day.
If you take in an entire solar panel installation you're going to save thousands of dollars. Homemade solar panels are definitely the way to go. They're inexpensive, easy to build, and they look as good as ones you buy.
All that's well and good, but how do you learn how to build them? Well, as I was building my panels I decided to start making videos of me doing it. Of course I found several tips and tricks to improve the speed of the build so I had to re-shoot some videos, but I've documented the whole process in video and picture form. If you're interested simply click the link at the right that says "Become a Member". It's a one time fee and you get access to no just building solar panels, but hooking it together, charge controllers and more.
That being said, there is quite a bit of free information available on the site as well. You can sign up for the newsletter and get weekly how-to's or simply browse the site. I hope you find it informative and if you have any feedback just click the contact link at the top of this page.
