Todd and Aubra's Journey #2
Wow, the interest for following step-by-step how to go green has been overwhelming. If I don't respond to your emails it's just simply because I'm behind in answering. Here's the latest update from Todd.
Just seeing your post online about us was like having a cheerleader and a coach on the sidelines guiding us on what we believe to be a monumental and scary adventure. Having your thoughts, feelings and desires about all this validated by others is a welcome and stark change compared to what the nay-sayers so quickly give you. Even some friends and family are quick to criticize our ideas.
I can definitely relate to that.
This will be A LOT more work to live a sustainable and green lifestyle. Well, I welcome it. I'm not afraid of hard work. Especially when it is for me and my family. It means my kids will get to spend less time on the computer, TV and video games and more time in the garden and caring for small animals. It means cleaning up animal messes in cold weather. It means my kids stay busy and learn the value of hard work.
Sounds like the right receipt for rearing successful adults to me! That is the whole idea of being a parent. I realize I won't be popular with my three young girls at first. But I will be right by their side doing it with them. It means having one-on-one time with the kids, teaching how to live responsibly. The way I see it, most double income homes get to spend maybe 3 to 4 hours a day with their kids. That time grows smaller and smaller as they get older (extra-curricular activities, homework, friends), then they are gone. My time is now..to have the most impact on our children as we can.
Three girls ages 9,7, and 3 have a lot of bad habits to break and some really good ones to learn...even if it has to be the hard way. It might help those who are following this story to share a bit more about where we are in life and what it is like in our home now so that folks can relate better to our story. We truly are like many "normal" folks out there. If normal means living paycheck to paycheck, living beyond your means, giving in to a lot of their kids wants, being wasteful consumers, and trying to keep up with the Jones, then my wife and I want to be ABNORMAL!!
One thing I do want to mention is that we've setup Todd with a topic in the forum. If you'd like to ask him questions or just give some support you can do so here. It doesn't cost anything to post in the forum just click 'Login' and 'Create Account' if you don't have one already. If you'd like to share your journey or need some direction feel free to post as well.
Forum Post of the Journey
In the next week or so Todd is going to be sharing what he's done so far and his short term goals for this the next couple of months.
Stay tuned.
