Before we start building a wind generator it's always best to see if we can find some free money from the government. The United States has been really on the ball with renewable energy grants, and I'm sad to say that Canada hasn't been quite so proactive.

If you're a Canadian you're out of luck. I have yet to see any renewable energy grants... only these stupid home retrofitting grants. While they are useful, it doesn't really help your situation though.

If you live in the States though... I'm proud of your government! You have grants for renewable energy production which spans all types of energy production.

Let's take a look at what you need to do to get your hands on some of that grant money.

There is a renewable energy grant for Small Wind Energy Systems. I'm going to go over the details, but you can look for yourself here.

This grant is good for 30% of the total wind generator cost (which means you could get some bigger blades and motor). There are however, a couple strings attached.
